My school has participated in the Coaches VS. Cancer program for 4 years. In 2012 we raised $41,000. We were the #1 fundraiser in the midwest and in the top two nationally. Our goal this year is to be first in the nation. This works so well because we get everyone in the town involved. The T-shirt printing company sells t-shirts and donates the profits. Some local businesses in town sell headbands or socks. Other businesses donate things to the silent auction held during the games. We have $5 hats to hundred dollar signed footballs. All the elementary schools and middle school has fundraising of their own. There is a supper before the game and cookies with pink frosting, pink ice cream, and regular concessions are sold during the game. The high school does tattoos, hair extensions, and nail stickers. During the day before the game there is alumni games that alumni can volunteer to play in. Even the other team is involved by wearing pink socks for the game! The girls team has special pink uniforms and between the boys and girls game there is a special ceremony for anyone that has had cancer in our town. And this isn't just for basketball players. The bowling team has a open tournament and the swim team can pledge to swim a mile for a certain amount of money. This all goes towards cancer research.
